Investment Impact

The Problem:

According to Gen Y Planning, only 40 percent of adults keep a budget and track their spending.  Most Americans have no financial literacy training. According to the National Endowment for Financial Education (NEFE), when teachers were asked to embed financial literacy into their reading and math curriculums, 60% surveyed responded that they didn’t feel qualified enough to teach financial management. Many students are not taught critical life skills of how to set goals and achieve them, how to make a plan, communicate well,  work hard and earn money.

How We Solve It
Lemonade Day enables student to conceptualize, plan and run a real business. However, these students aren’t just learning to start a business… they gain self-esteem and confidence and practice resilience through their ability to execute their plan and practice their public speaking. They are creative and resourceful in keeping the costs down and attracting customers and they practice citizenship and philanthropy as the curriculum teaches them to spend some of their earnings on a reward for hard work, save some for a long term goal and share some with an organization or initiative in the community that enabled their business to success.
